My Communication Journey
I am a communications professional dedicated to bridging the gap between organizations and their audiences. My journey began at Western Carolina University (WCU), where I earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in public relations. There, I learned to merge my passion for writing with my professional ambitions.
My myriad of internships and part-time positions, spanning ad management to public relations to conservation and university communications, not only built my skillset in AP style, press releases, digital marketing, blogs, campaign management, and software, including Cision, ACCESS Newswire, MailChimp, WordPress, MetaSuite, and Canva, but also showed me how many ways there are to make an impact through communications. Each role was different, but they all had the same end goal: to build a lasting connection.
Achieving this goal in each position gave me a strong foundation for when I started as a Content Writer. This role has further honed my skills by building on email campaign creation and running with MailChimp, conducting webinars and interviews, writing blog posts, creating press releases, maintaining brand consistency, editing and revising materials, and much more.
Why I Chose Communications
Since I was a child, I have been enveloped in the worlds held within books. They transported me to places I could never imagine. If words can transport one to another world, what else can they do?
The answer to that is they can change this world. Words are how we communicate with one another and spark the fire of change. I aspire to use words to do just that: communicate to those from all cultures and walks of life, and build lasting connections.
Through communication and marketing, I believe I can achieve this by encouraging two-way communication and fostering relationships built on trust. After all, the pen is mightier than the sword.
